The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is planning for a potential new bridge and gathering spaces for people walking, running, biking or rolling over the Mississippi River between North and Northeast Minneapolis.

The MPRB wants to hear from the communities the bridge will connect! An open house is planned Tuesday, July 23, 6-7:30 pm at a MPRB-owned vacant lot at 1720 Marshall St. NE. This will be the first chance to view updated concepts for the new bridge and park spaces on each side of the river and give feedback to project staff.

Invasive Plant Removal Event

Welcome to SNO’s first Invasive Plant Removal Event of the season with Friends of the Mississippi River!

We have started a long term partnership to help maintain the river banks along the Mississippi at Sheridan Memorial Park. We will be learning about invasive species, how to identify them, how to remove them effectively and eventually planting native species to revitalize the landscape. We will meet at the Sheridan Veterans Memorial at 6 pm, where the FMR will educate us on the project and then we will start the invasive plant removal. We will provide the gloves, water, bags, snacks and tools. Broken Clock Brewing Cooperative will provide a beverage afterwards!

Please be sure to sign up!

The river is one of Sheridan’s greatest assets and something that we as a community can work together to preserve.

University Ave NE Survey

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is working to make University Ave. N.E. (Hwy 47) from Central Ave. S.E. to 27th Ave. N.E. in Minneapolis safer and easier to use. MnDOT has developed proposed changes to University Ave. N.E. based on recent studies and community engagement, such as the Highway 47/65 Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) study.

MnDOT is now seeking input from community members on the proposed changes. People can provide input by:

  • Taking a short online survey between now and June 30. The survey is available in English, Spanish and Somali.

  • Attending the public meeting on June 11, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., at Las Estrellas Dual Language Elementary School.

Community input will help create a proposed design layout for University Ave. N.E. Once developed, MnDOT will work with local partners to seek funding to make road improvements. This project is currently planned for 2027.
