Lottery Drawing

The form to enter this lottery for bill support closed on September 15th, 2021 at 12pm. 15 people entered the lottery for 8 spots. We used RandomPicker to draw winners using entrant’s initials to maintain some level of anonymity. We will be reaching out to all entrants in the next two days.

The bill support fund winners are:
- LH
- THu (there were two entrants with TH initials, so both were entered with the next letter of their last name)
- CT
- AP
- MN
- ZP
- KW
- CH

If winners are unresponsive after 2 weeks or pass on the funds, we will reach out to the remaining entrants. If we are able to raise additional funds, we will also reach out to the remaining entrants. If you would like to donate on behalf of an entrant that did not receive funding, you can donate through our GiveMN page or to our Paypal with “Bill Support” in the description.

Raingarden Programs

Sheridan Neighborhood Raingarden Installation and Maintenance Program

This year Sheridan Neighborhood Organization is teaming up with the nonprofit, Metro Blooms, to help residents who would like to install a raingarden or have an existing raingarden and would like a maintenance help! SNO is covering the entire cost of each project, which means this is a great opportunity for YOU! Up to 3 properties in the neighborhood will be able to receive new raingardens and up to 10 participants who have existing raingardens can sign up for maintenance support.

All participants will receive an onsite consultation with a Metro Blooms landscape designer. Those receiving a new raingarden will also receive a raingarden design, and installation by Metro Blooms, a $2000 value! Metro Blooms will work with the Conservation Corps of MN to excavate the raingardens, haul away extra soil, and mulch. Metro Blooms will also order all of the plants and provide them to participants at a ‘plant pick up’ event. Participants will be responsible for planting their raingarden according to Metro Blooms’ design.

For those participants who join the raingarden maintenance program, your consultation with our landscape designers will focus specifically on maintenance for your existing raingarden. You will receive an onsite review of existing conditions: weed and existing native plant identification, sediment and watering impacts review as well as best maintenance practices.  Educational resources and hands on support will also be provided to assist participants with weed removal within the time allotted, and the designer will make a list of any replacement plants and mulch (if needed) to be ordered at consult.

Consultations will all take place during the remaining weeks of summer of 2021. Registration forms for receiving a raingarden in 2021 closed on August 15th.

Lottery Drawing

We had 7 Sheridan residents enter for 3 new raingarden installation spots and 12 Sheridan residents enter for 10 raingarden maintenance spots. In the event that a lottery winner is unresponsive or unable to receive a raingarden, Metro Blooms will reach out to the other entrants until all spots are filled.

The 2021 New Raingarden Installation recipients are:
- Nicole Pappas Stanoch
- Mackenzie Heinrichs
- Heidi Niedernhofer

And the 2021 Raingarden Maintenance recipients are:
- Amity Foster
- Sally Waterman
- Grace D'Welle
- Joy Smallfield
- Elena Kallevig
- Linnea Hardon
- Lee Lyon
- Karen Charlson
- Sam DiVita
- Kevin Petrie

Congrats! Like this program? Let us know! We need your input to decide how we allocate funding every year. Come to the next community meeting or send us an email at sno@sheridanneighborhood.org.

Graco Park

198344481_951513448938056_332979451908325617_n(1).jpg

A new stage of Northeast Minneapolis riverfront park development begins this summer! The project includes:

  • A new and improved park, called Graco Park on a parcel of riverfront land north of Plymouth Avenue Bridge that currently hosts a section of Mississippi East Bank Trail and a gravel beach facing Hall’s Island.

  • Design and construction of a building supporting Graco Park along Sibley Street NE. We're looking for interesting parties to submit a Letter of Interest for becoming a tenant or programming the building, see the news release for details.

  • Improved trail connections to Boom Island Park and a pedestrian bridge connecting to Hall’s Island.

There are several ways to get involved. There's a website with background information and survey questions, an in-person, drop-in event at the future Graco Park this Saturday, June 12, 1-3 pm where people can speak with staff about the project, and a virtual conversation Wednesday, June 23, 4:30-6 pm. Check out the news release for details.

You are encouraged to give feedback that will be used to develop park and building concepts. The first of three planned phases of engagement in 2021 has just launched. There are multiple ways to get involved:

Online Survey and Resources: Visit the project engagement page to find a survey, maps, and images with information about the project and prompts to provide input. All submitted ideas and comments will be documented and considered as designs for the project are developed. This survey is open through July 7, 2021.

In-Person Event: Share your thoughts in person at Graco Park on Saturday, June 12, 1-3 p.m. Look for the MPRB tent and table.

Virtual Conversation: Join MPRB staff and community members for an online conversation about the project on Wednesday, June 23, 4:30-6 p.m. Use the Zoom link below to join:

Graco Park Zoom Link

Meeting ID: 928 8232 1476

Passcode: 303288

Down the Road: The first phase of engagement wraps up in July. Project staff will use feedback collected to create multiple park and building design concepts and share them in August for another round of feedback with another survey and additional in-person events. Then, in the fall, a single, preferred concept will be shared for a third round of engagement.

Visit the Graco Park and Lot 2 project page and enter your email address into the box under "Subscribe to Email Updates" to stay informed about this project.

MPRB is also soliciting letters of interest (LOI) from interested parties, organizations, businesses, or proprietors that are interested in being a tenant, hosting programs, or both in a new proposed MPRB building in Graco Park. As part of the new Graco Park design process, there is also an opportunity for a future separate commercial space to be developed on the site adjacent to the Park Board building with the intention of the building to support operations of a park-supportive vendor. This call for letters of interest is for both opportunities. Interested parties should review the submission guidelines and submit a letter of interest by July 23, 2021.

The new park owned and operated building will be approximately 4,000 square feet composed of a combination of shared or independent office space, community meeting rooms, public restrooms, and an open programmable gallery-like hall. The design and configuration of the future commercial building may change as a result of the design process.

Justice for Daunte Wright

We at Sheridan Neighborhood Organization are committed in solidarity with the family, friends, and community of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black father who was shot and killed by Brooklyn Center Police on Sunday, April 11th, as well as those holding space at 63rd Ave N and Kathrene Dr. in grief and anger. We condemn the systems of racism and oppression which continue to enable police violence on our Black communities. We are calling on you, our neighbors, to get engaged in the community, talk to your legislators, and help financially support those who have been targeted by the police. We need everyone to work together to end this systemic violence on Black lives and we commit to doing everything in our power to support, uplift, and protect our Black community members here in Sheridan.

Join our Annual Meeting to Vote
Monday, April 26th at 7pm on Zoom

On March 22nd, the SNO Board voted to put out a 21 Day Notice of intent to move the remainder of our CPP Reserve funds into priorities including:

  • $82,000 from Reserve to Engagement Efforts

  • $11,613.49 from Reserve to Raingardens and Community Gardens

This totals $93,613.49 which is the entirety of our Reserve fund. View all of our CPP Funding here.

The SNO Board also voted to change the Microgrants priority language to expand eligibility requirements so that community members can apply for a microgrant (up to $500) for any project that benefits the neighborhood and community.

SNO intends to conduct a community vote on these changes. Please join our Annual Meeting to vote on Monday, April 26th at 7pm on Zoom.

Reasoning:

Funding for Neighborhood Organizations across the City of Minneapolis is changing this year from the Community Participation Program (CPP) to Neighborhoods 2020. This means that on July 1st, 2021, all of our uncontracted funds (including the Reserve fund) will be funneled into Neighborhoods 2020 funding. In order to maximize neighborhood use of the funds, the board has decided to move all of the CPP reserve funds into priorities.

Our Engagement Efforts priority includes all of our events, outreach, meetings, staffing, and general neighborhood engagement. The funds allocated to the Raingardens & Community Gardens priority would go directly to establishing and maintaining Raingardens in the neighborhood. Any unspent funds will still be available on an application basis in the Neighborhoods 2020 funding.
